West Berwick Golf Club selects as its model the North Berwick Golf Club in North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland
The West Berwick Golf Club began as an idea during a trip to the British Open at Carnoustie in 1999. Over the next few years, those same travelers kept talking about the possibility of building a Scottish type Golf Club in Mt. Carmel next to Mt. Carmel Golf Course. Finally, after again visiting North Berwick and attending the Open during July of 2007 at Carnoustie, an agreement was reached in the spring of 2008 with the City of Mt. Carmel for the lease of the Old Country Club building (Golf Pro's residence) near the golf course at 420 Park Road. It is now the home of the West Berwick Golf Club with its main emphasis being the advancement of Junior Golf.

With the cooperation of both the Mt. Carmel Golf Course and the Mt. Carmel High School Athletic Department, including coaches John White and Karin Kelsey, the West Berwick Golf Club will be sponsoring a team golf tournament on Monday, August 16, 2010. The tournament, which will be for both boy's and girl's high school teams, will include a shotgun start at about 9am and individual as well as team recognition and awards.
