Where Junior Golf has no better friend!

During 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 the West Berwick Golf Club has:

1) Provided all the financial needs to start an MCHS Girl's Golf Team (4 straight years).

2) Provided meals for home matches for all teams participating

3) Took the MCHS Boy's team to a practice round at the 37th Ryder Cup at Valhalla

4) Provided meals to both girl's and boy's teams as they practice for the Regional, Sectionals and State Tournaments

5) Provided all equipment and costs to start the West Berwick Golf Range behind

the Mt. Carmel Church of Christ (278 yards in length)

6) Provided 100% of the costs of the 2009, 2010 & 2011 Spring Golf Seasons:

The Aces won three straight Big 8 Championships

7) Provided Embroidered coats for the 2010 boys State Champions and embroidered fleece jackets for the 2010 girls Regional Runner-ups. Provided Embroidered Fleece Pullovers to the 2009 Class A Runner-Up team as well as a DVD commemorating 2009 and a championship 8x10 of the team and their trophy. Provided Embroidered Wind Breakers to the 2008 Class A 7th place team as a commemoration of their historic appearance.

9) Provided meals to all participants, coaches and observers at NO COST for both the 2009 Boy's Class A Regional

and the 2009 & 2010 Girl's Class A Regional. The tournaments were held in Mt. Carmel

Great old photograph of the original country club found....

This wonderful picture of the Mt. Carmel Country Club was found which clearly shows the current home of West Berwick Country Club. This picture had to be taken between 1922 and 1933 and shows the building before the brick

facade on the 1st floor was added. It also shows a huge porch on the back of the building which must have been something! The chimney clearly shows limestome slabs on the angles - the same ones that you can see today. The city pool now sits on the land between the camera and the club building. What a great momento of the past of WBGC.

West Berwick Golf Club plays North Berwick Golf Club in 1st ever Lincoln Honors Match....

During July of 2011, 16 members of West Berwick Golf Club went to England and Scotland. As part of that trip, the group was lucky enough to play a match against 8 members of the North Berwick Golf Club. Even though WBGC lost 3-1, the match was excellent. The dinner at North Berwick that night exceeded all expectations. We'd like to thank the Captain of the NBGC team, Alan Simpson, for a great experience. Alan is an International Member of WBGC. West Berwick junior golf program termed "huge success"....

The summer golf program led by MCHS coaches John White and Karin Kelsey had almost twice the number of children involved as it did in 2010. With over 90 participants, the summer long program ended with a great tournament for all age divisions. Rob Dean crowned 2011 Hickory Club Champion....

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon (Nov 6), the WBGC Hickory Club Championship was held at Mt. Carmel Golf Course. For the 2nd time in as many years, Rob Dean found himself challenging for the championship on extra holes. This time, on hole #10, Rob almost had an Ace to defeat 2009 Champion Jim White with a tap-in birdie. See the Members page for more information and pictures.

WBGC Member Catriona Matthew wins LPGA Event in Mexico!.........

Congratulations to our own Catriona Matthew for her November 13 victory in the Lorena Ochoa LPGA Invitational at Guadalajara, Mexico. Catriona won by 3 strokes over Anna Nordqvist & I.K.Kim. Catriona visited our club last June with a junior golf clinic along with her husband Graeme and their daughters. We'd like to congratulate Catriona on this great achievement.

2011 West Berwick Club Championship......

The weather held off and two new club champions were crowned at the 2011 West Berwick Golf Club club championship held on Saturday, November 26, 2011. Tim Woodsmall, one of our newest members, won the Tantallon Jug for lowest gross score with a one over par 72. Nice job Woody!

The Dalwhinnie Quaich went to another new member, Wes Clemens, who shot a 78 for a net 70 for the lowest net score. Thanks to Golf Committee member Dave Crow for chairing the event. Congratulations to the winners!

Randy Grounds captured the 2nd annual darts championship (301) in amazing fashion with a final match with Secretary Eric Ikemire. The club night, held on December 5, 2011, also held the last cash drawing for 2011 and Randy also won that - winning a little less than $3,000. Congratulations Randy on the win and the extra Christmas money!
